Sampo-That would be awesome, and it could be done. It's an order of magnitude more difficult than doing them after the game though. Next step is to have player WPA/EPA stats integrated after the final play-by-play is published. Then maybe we can do it live. We'll do it live! ...WE'LL DO IT LIVE!!!! (Bill O'Reilly reference there.)

Hey Brian, Would it be possible to get the WPA/EPA stats for the players to this page in real time (as the graph updates)? It would be extremely interesting to see who players are making the difference.

The main difference between the Packers and the Super Bowl XL Steelers? The Packers are better at football and won't need to beat a 2-TD favorite. In fact, the Packers are currently 4-7 favorites to win the NFC right now.

Fox just pointed out GB has ZERO punts tonight.

Aaron Rodgers is just the reincarnation of Brett Favre (w/ some mad scrambling skills)....oh wait, Favre is still alive....nm

Packers are looking a lot like the Super Bowl Steelers team from a few years back.

Great point, James. You know that it will be the turnovers that are blamed, even though only two of the turnovers came when the game was still in question.

Well I am glad that all the Atlanta love continued in the general public. Made some really good wagers on this game. For entertainment purposes only of course. It's like christmas all over again.

I agree there's value to adding 3 points, (although would prefer that it made it a 4 score game no matter what) but the fact is 50 yard field goals do not have a high success rate. That's more of my issue with it. That and the miss gives Atlanta 7 more yards than a failed conversion does. And perhaps best in that scenario, just go ahead and punt. Not the EPA play, but perhaps the WPA play.....C'mon GB get to 50.

Stop turning the ball over, Atlanta! You are destroying the narrative that you just aren't that good.

*sigh* Poor Brian Finneran. No more Villanova alums in the playoffs for awhile. Maybe Matt Szczur will get there. I hope the Packers win though.

A successful field goal makes it either a 4 possession game or a 3 possession game with 3 straight 2-point conversions. So the 50-yard FG would have eliminated most of whatever was left of Atlanta's WP. I actually don't think it was a terrible move. Not that it's going to matter anyway.

Of course the absolute best part about this, is that the .500 Seahawks could host the Packers next week. Go Seahawks! Those Seahawks could end the season with a winning record yet.

After this and the Cards game, Rodgers must have some insane playoff stats.

James, based on the way that GB is treating this drive (still throwing it), they clearly are still trying to score. I just think a punt or going for it was far superior than a field goal.

It's almost as if turnover rates were predominantly a factor of sample error...

For a team that is so good at the skill of not turning the ball over, its amazing to me how Atlanta keeps turning the ball over. So weird....too bad Mike Smith's coaching isn't going to have a chance to come into play this game. (Sorry for all the sarcasm, but a lot of pent up angst at the Atlanta fans on the site the last few weeks, been waiting for this)
10:49 in the 4th qtr

James said...
Um, Chris, I don't think the Packers were concerned with the outcome of that drive. My question is what is the story about this game? Too many Falcon turnovers? Green Bay continues it's roll? Atlanta was overrated all along (not likely, but maybe)?
10:49 in the 4th qtr

Chris said...
Looked it up on NFL.com 4th and 3. Obviously should not have kicked a field goal there. I think a punt was probably even a better decision. That drive was so quick and with the missed field goal, the Falcons get the ball almost exactly where they would have if they had recovered the onside kick.

Chris said...
What was the distance on 4th to go there? I looked away.
12:55 in the 4th qtr

Chris said...
I was thinking the same thing, Brian. Although it looked like Green Bay was not surprised. All their guys were up. (Even still almost perfectly executed)
13:30 in the 4th qtr

Brian said...
Good on Mike Smith for going for the onside kick now.
14:21 in the 4th qtr

Brian said...
If they get the ball back at 21 points down, they might go above 1%. I doubt GB gets more than 1 more TD unless there is a pick-6 off a desperation pass.
14:21 in the 4th qtr

Chris said...
So, two questions for the rest of the game. Will the Pack get to 50? Will Atlanta at any point in the fourth quarter have higher than a 1% chance of winning the game?

I'm stunned, this has to be the biggest upset of all time. A 6 seed defeating a 13 win team. I mean who could have possibly predicted this.....oh....right.

Hard to say, Jonathan. However, it's almost DEFINITELY the case that, in the event that Cowherd did discuss it, that he made sure to say something racist or homophobic at the same time.
7:35 in the 3rd qtr

Jonathan said...
I haven't listened to Colin Cowherd in weeks, does anybody know if he still insists that the Packers made a mistake by letting go of Favre? Just curious. The last I heard, all Colin could say was that Favre > Rodgers because Sanchez has more playoffs wins or something ridiculous like that.

James said...
I just want to say I'm on record saying that in PFR's imaginary draft Rodgers would be the first pick... BEFORE tonight's game started.

There is something scary-good about Rodgers tonight. Confident, accurate, fast. More so than usual. Maybe it's the dome.
