I should note that kneel downs and spikes are not counted in the player stats.

Brian said...
Rob-Yes. It's because the automatic model doesn't know the Jets were out of timeouts.

Brian, question: How does each of Ben's last kneel-downs earn more WPA than his completion to Brown, which effectively ended the game? I assume it's because of time remaining but wouldn't you agree it's wrong?

I would have thought run it. Make the Jets drive at least 80 yards in 1:10 without any timeouts, and they're in desperate straits. Give them 1:50 and the impossible becomes quite possible. PIT was in a very favorable situation, and low variance was their ally. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Big Ben was given instructions to hold onto the ball until he either found a wide open receiver or was sacked. In that part of the field, a 10 yards loss is hardly any different from a 2 yard gain. It might even be better, because Big Ben could just run around the backfield and burn a few extra seconds before going down. Judging by the way that play unfolded, it looks like that's exactly what they did. huh. Good play call I guess.

Huge goal line stand by the Steelers. Cost most of their remaining WP.

Why is Shonn Greene only good in the playoffs?

I suspect PIT will be slight favorites.

Either way though, PIT vs GB would/will be a fantastic Super Bowl matchup. Two borderline elite QBs, great defense, nine Super Bowl titles between the two franchises.

I wouldn't be so sure about the Steelers being favored. I saw a line where the NFC was slightly favored to win the Super Bowl over the AFC, and Vegas already thinks the Packers are 6 points better than the Bears. They're setting the Steelers and the Jets about equal to each other. I think the Packers will be 2 or 3 point favorites--that's my guess.

This is going to be an interesting super bowl. The Steelers are almost certain to be favored, yet the Pack's strength, passing deep on sure footing plays to the Steelers greatest weakness: defending the deep pass. Let the Green Bay value story continue!

Wow, 0.99WP! The only way the jets can win from here is surely turnovers?

Brian said...
There is no way the Jets can outscore the Steelers by 24 pts in 30 min. The game is over.

"I don't think Ed Hochuli knows as much about the throwing motion as I do." Harsh much?

Turnovers on 4th down aren't any worse than an incomplete pass or stuff. That's one of the great things about 4th down plays. Very liberating.
